About

Our food system is fragile.

This realization was the spark that which ignited Snowfire Farmstead. Meat in the US comes from a shockingly small number of large producers who raise animals in deplorable conditions. These conditionals lead to unhealthy livestock who are stressed (which affects tenderness and taste of meate) and ultimately the filthy conditions lead to filth during butchery, casing foodbourne illness. Livestock are bred for growth rate above all else: animal health and well being or taste.

There must be a better way.

At Snowfire Farmstead, we focus on raising healthy, heritage breed animals well suited for our climate. This leads to happy, healthy animals, well adapted to foraging. This ultimately leads to better tasting and more nutritious protein sources for our family and yours. All animals are processed on-farm to guarantee minimal stress and the highest quality end product. We respect our animals and take care to utilize as much of the animal as is possible; on-farm butchery allows us to utilize the whole animal and minimize waste.

Mission

We strive to foster a community who loves to learn and dine together. We work to breed the hardiest, healthiest, best tasting (actually genetic) multi-purpose animals and to provide them with an environment to allow them to thrive. We respect all our animals, especially our culls by ensuring that we utilize the whole animal during butchery. We aim to teach the art of cookery, making whole-animal cookery accessible.

Meat Share

We are adamant about minimizing stress at the end for our cull animals. That means we refuse to ship livestock for hours to the nearest USDA facility for them to be processed by someone who cares very little for their well-being. That being said, we do all harvesting on-farm.

This means we cannot sell you meat directly. We can, however, sell you live animals and process them for you. Reach out below for more information.
